Spinal Decompression
The Rochester Chiropractic Group has added three Triton DTS TRT-600 Therapy tables used for Spinal Decompression. Two of these state of art tables are located at our Greece office and one table is located at our Pittsford location.
You may have been hearing alot about spinal decompression on radio ads, television ads and even on billboards. We'll see if we can bring some understanding to what this remarkable therapy is used to treat and how it is best applied.
What exactly is spinal decompression?
Spinal decompression can be summed up in one phrase, “computerized traction.” Traction has been used as a form of spinal pain treatment for centuries and can be found in many forms. From inversion tables to matted platforms consisting of pulleys, ropes, and weights that are reminiscent of something from the middle ages to what we see today. Modern technology combined with research can now apply true decompression that can relieve some of the most severe spinal pain.
How does it work?
The computer is programmed with specific parameters based on the patient’s size and exactly what spinal level the problem is suspected to be at. The computer then gently and incrementally begins to apply the traction while the patient’s upper torso is fixed upper half of the table and the pelvis is fixed to the moveable lower portion. By slowly adding on the weight to the desired maximum and then cycling the load up and down a few pounds the Triton DTS can apply decompression not traction. If one were to instantly apply eighty pounds of traction to the human spine the body would reflexively contract the lumbar spinal muscles to protect the spine and no separation of the vertebrae would actually occur. This is how decompression differs from the rudimentary forms of traction.
What conditions does spinal decompression effectively treat?
Conditions like chronic back pain caused by disc degeneration, joint degeneration, arthritis, spinal stenosis with or without pinched nerves, sciatica, lumbar (low back) disc bulges/protrusion/herniation may respond to spinal decompression.
How is one decompression table different from another?
Our decompression table is the most recent design and the most versatile allowing us to supply any decompression approach. For example we can provide both neck and low back decompression with the patient positioned either face up or face down. Some tables limit patient position and were designed several years ago.
How much does treatment cost?
In the Rochester Chiropractic Group’s main Greece office the number of treatment sessions depends on your clinical needs. As soon as you are better, you’re done. We will do a clinical trial, if you are not improving after four to six sessions, we will suggest other options. We will never pressure you or ask you to sign a contract or pay a lump sum.The cost of each treatment session is never more than the typical cost of an office visit.
